It took a while to happen – now it’s full on

Start of Leg 1 - Volvo Ocean Race 2011-2012

Never a dull momenton this race….

It seems like forever coming, but it was great to see the CAMPER boys get underway over the weekend and to do so in such dramatic style.

In what can only be described as dominating the other boats, the Camper Team sent a clear message that they are going to be formidable opponents for the other teams.

It will be a huge distraction for many of us now as we tune in each day for the much anticipated updates as the fleet moves on towards Cape Town.  I am sure the guys on board will be even more eager to understand the strengths and weaknesses of their performance relative to the other teams.

Unfortunately for the race, two of the boats have already pulled out, one with a broken mast and the other with serious delamination issues to its hull.  This leaves only four boats racing.

Having seen the way the CAMPER Team has come together, the design process, the build and commissioning, and then the sailing and testing programme, I have every confidence that these guys have all the right ingredients to win this thing.

To see how Nico and the boys have developed into a formidable crew is credit to the process they have put in place.  It is great that they are out there flying the Emirates Team New Zealand flag with Camper and will no doubt account for many internet hits from the TNZ base in Auckland as we track their process around the World.

We wish them well for what will be a very demanding race.

  1. My feelings exactly. I could not have said it better myself. Grant Dalton as the CEO has to be commended for putting the team together.

Could you be Marcel Fachler, born in Antwerp in 1939?

Sorry to everybody else for this off-topic comment, but I have not seen this man for more then 45 years.
